Best Lab Grown Diamonds in the UK - Not All Diamonds are Made Equal
Currently in the industry there are many misleading stories floating around claiming that natural and lab grown diamonds are graded differently, and that lab diamonds are somehow held up to a lower standard, but that is simply not the case. Because lab grown diamonds are physically and chemically identical to mined diamonds, they are graded and certified exactly the same way. Therefore, there are no differences in the 4C’s (cut, colour, clarity, and carat) used to grade and distinguish them. It is theoretically possible for everyone to buy their dream diamond after reading about the 4Cs and weighing their budget against their prefered of the 4Cs. However, if you make a purchase based on the grades alone, you may overpay or even make the wrong purchase.

Basically, the 4C grades aren’t as clear-cut as they appear on certificates;  a whole spectrum of quality exists between the grades, and resulting variations can drastically impact the diamond’s value. For instance, VS2 diamonds can be classified as VS2+, VS2 even, or VS2- by experienced gemmologists. It is not uncommon to find VS2 stones that are borderline VS1, which our gemologist classifies as VS2+. However, we cannot simply list it as VS2+ on our website. The accompanying report from IGI, GIA, or GCAL will only list it as a VS2, thereby causing confusion if we contradict or don’t match their official reports.

In the same vein, there are diamonds that are at the lower end of the, for example, VS1 spectrum that our gemmologist internally classifies as VS2+. These borderline VS2 diamonds, however, are listed in their certificates as VS1, depriving customers of any nuance in their purchasing decision. Customers will end up paying a premium for the VS1 classification to buy diamonds that are, in essence, VS2+. Similarly, the colour grade is internally subdivided by our gemmologists into + (plus), even, and – (minus). An E- colour diamond will command a higher premium over an F+ colour diamond, even though both are almost the same in colour.

To ensure we provide the best lab grown diamonds in UK and value to our customers, we have six full-time, industry certified gemmologists in our team who constantly monitor suppliers’ videos and photos for diamonds in the upper range of every category, especially clarity and colour. Using their expertise, they perform the heavy lifting for our customers by inspecting each diamond personally to ensure we are bringing only the best diamonds to the UK. Rather than selling random stones of bad quality, we believe it is better for both the consumer and ourselves over the long term to sell only quality products.

lab grown diamonds UK Novita

In order to achieve consistent quality, we utilise a quirk in the diamond supply chain. Since diamond cutters typically cut diamonds in batches, often 100s at a time, and must offload their finished stone quickly to make room for new inventory, they contact their favourite clients to inform them of their stock and allow them to pick first. In fact, many of the best and most productive diamond cutters in the world consider Novita Diamonds to be their favourite customer. Because of our market position as the world’s largest seller of lab diamonds, as well as our reputation as a reliable and dependable business partner, we receive preferential treatment from our suppliers. Our gemmologists make every effort to utilise this first pick advantage over other retailers to its fullest potential. After carefully evaluating every diamond on the list, they ultimately choose 8 to 11 out of every 100 diamonds to buy and have for the local lab diamond UK market. So this is the process our expert gemmologist follow to ensure we have only the best lab grown diamonds in UK. the list is passed down to other less influential retailers and so forth until, ultimately, the smallest retailer receives the leftover and definitely not the best diamonds in UK become the bottom of their respective grades, such as VS2-, VVS1-, F-, G-, and so on. It is these undesirable stones that are being sold online for very low prices in order to entice customers who are unaware that the only reason the diamonds are being sold for a bargain is that no reputable diamond seller will stock them.
